For what is worth, many DC characters, such as Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Shazam! (orig. Captain Marvel), Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the Spectre, Doctor Fate, Zatara (Zatanna´s father), Black Canary and the original (but not the best known) iterations of Blue Beetle, Mr. Terrific, the Atom, Green Lantern and the Flash, among others, started in the 30s and 40s, what we call the American Golden Age of Comics. Even many early Silver Age DC superheroes preceded the Fantastic four for about half a decade, like the Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Supergirl, Green Arrow and the second iterations of The Flash and Green Lantern. What did these DC guys and gals have in common? Well, they tended to have very straightforward heroic personalities.
